In the Deep Recesses

In the deep recesses of my mind, behind the web of memories, beyond the sea of emotion, there exists a world that I strive to describe in words. To write that perfect plot, create the perfect character and recreate for you, the world that is cloaked in a fog challenges my very being.

I can’t tell if it is the character throwing me into a personality conflict, or if it is the plots expanding and contracting like an accordion, that stop me dead in the midst of writing. As much as I would love to create complicated and deep plots, I can’t help but wonder how my mind can think to put it all together. The inherent ability to interweave true historical facts into a fictional novel so that the story itself is as real as my own life is a gift that I aspire to attain. The mere existence of weaknesses and strengths within my writing style could be my success or my downfall.

I have a story to tell – it’s all here, like a never ending movie. It plays over and over in my mind. Sometimes the characters change, they grow and evolve, while other times, the setting might change. That one perfect moment in time so difficult to describe, I feel the need to move to some place simpler. And while the plots continue to shift, develop and further complicate the story, I wonder if it is a good thing to entwine so many plots. Would it truly hold the readers interest or would it bore them to death?

They say that the first chapter must capture the reader. It is in this first chapter that you set the story question. It is that question that remains throughout your story and draws the reader into your world. It is in this first chapter that you must tease the reader with the perfect amount of information to draw them in without giving away the secret. It is a talent to do this with style and flair. In the deep recesses of my mind, it is all there…just waiting to make its entrance.
